OEDIPUS ALPHA: a new classic

"We come before you, traveling players all, with a tale of tragedy to tell.  Handed down from age to age, it now passes unto you tonight. We beseech the gods' and fates' blessings upon our story, as their ways play prominently in the telling. Therefore, we ask but your eyes and minds, hearts and imaginations whilst we reach our piteous tales' end. Then, let us begin...from the beginning."

With these words, audiences of all ages have been ushered into the world of OEDIPUS ALPHA.
This 'prequel' to Sophocles' Oedipus cycle, written by Thomas Ryan Ward, uses affected language and ancient stage conventions to offer the audience an authentic theatrical experience which is entertaining and educational with moments of both comedy and tragedy.

Those familiar with Sophocles' plays will enjoy the way OEDIPUS ALPHA brings the exposition on stage, offering a glimpse into Oedipus' young life with his adopted father and mother, Polybus and Merope, his role as a Corinthian prince and a dedicated childhood friendship.

Young audiences enjoy the stage spectacle, choreographed stage combat, strange rituals and mythical creatures.  A play for all ages and a perfect introduction to the classics for teen actors.
